Are you a lover of sea turtles? Chances are, if you’ve been to the Virgin Islands, your heart has already been captivated by these incredible creatures. All it takes is spotting one poking its head up from the water to catch a breath, or snorkeling next to one that’s lunching on sea grass, to be sucked into their majesty.

For all of the sea turtle fans out there, we’re excited to share the newest additions to our summer beach shop inventory. Check out these custom sea turtle art magnets by Leaf to Reef Studio.

Leaf to Reef Studio art magnets feature the original artwork of creative team, Travis Kelley and Jennifer Zingg. Both Kelley and Zingg have spent considerable time exploring the islands and reefs of the Caribbean and Hawaiian Islands. They collaborate on paintings and sculptures inspired by the flora and fauna of the natural world. They love spending time in the US Virgin Islands (especially St. Thomas and St. John), snorkeling, hiking, making art, and spending time with their friends at Virgin Islands Ecotours!

Inspired by the beautiful USVI, they have created other custom nature designs for us: a bananaquit, an octopus, a hermit crab, and a beach design.

Jennifer, co-owner of Leaf to Reef Studio, is also the Visual Arts Director at Stewart Home & School in Frankfort, Kentucky, where Luke Sorrentino (son of Virgin Islands Ecotours owner, Sybille Sorrentino), has lived and attended school since 2010 (pictured below). Travis, also co-owner of Leaf to Reef Studio, is a former US Army Ranger and disabled combat Veteran. Together they make art, teach workshops, and travel. They are artists, adventurers, and explorers!

The north shore of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is one of those rare places that manages to feel both untouched and well-known. Stretching along the island’s Caribbean-facing coastline, this region is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world—and it’s easy to see why. You can’t visit St. John without spending time on it. In fact, it’s probably the most popular reason why people visit St. John. ( Who among us hasn’t been lured into STJ dreaming by one of those iconic photos of Trunk Bay? ) However, there is so much to see and experience along the north shore. You likely will not be able to do it all on your first trip here. Here’s what to know about the north shore of St. John:

If you’ve been to St. John in the US Virgin Islands, you’ve likely encountered the wild donkeys around the island. Whether they approached you on the beach, strolled up to your Jeep’s window, or clip-clopped alongside you while shopping in Mongoose Junction, you were likely charmed by the presence of such a surprising farm animal on our little island. Because we’ve been posting a bunch of fun donkey videos lately over on our Facebook and Instagram accounts (if you’re not already following us, be sure to go and join in on the fun!), we thought we’d share a few fun details about the island’s donkey population.

The US Virgin Islands are a great place for both beginner and experienced snorkelers. The waters tend to be calm, clear, and warm year round, and there are many places where you can see an abundance of reef and marine life in relatively shallow waters. We love helping visitors experience the magic of the underwater world, and we have guided snorkeling tours and snorkel gear rentals available on all three islands: St. Thomas , St. John , and St. Croix . In order to best appreciate our waters and have a wonderful time while you’re “under the sea,” here are a few USVI snorkeling safety tips to keep in mind:
