Why Summer is a Great Time to Vacation in the Virgin Islands

It’s summer vacation season and if you’re thinking about taking a last minute trip to the Virgin Islands over the next couple of months, we’re here to tell you that that’s an excellent idea! There are so many benefits to traveling to the USVI during this slightly slower time of year (in comparison to the height of winter travel).

Here are some reasons why summer is an awesome time of year to vacation in the USVI:

The waters are consistently calm & perfect for boating!

During the winter months, even though it’s still warm here, the seas can be a bit choppier due to naturally windier days. The summer months in the VI tend to be still and calm – that means flat seas that are extra special for water activities. Whether you plan on kayaking, snorkeling, or heading out on an island-hopping boat trip, summer is a fantastic time to be on the water.

It’s a bit more affordable.

Because of slightly lower demand to travel this time of the year, you can find budget-friendly deals from airfare, to car rentals, to accommodations. Some local businesses even run creative packages and specials to drum up business, so be sure to follow them on social media for notifications, and ask around when you arrive on island.

It’s a fun escape for kids to meet other kids on vacation, too.

Because everyone is out of school for a few months, there are a ton of opportunities for your kids to find playmates on vacation here. All of the kids on island are out of school and out and about, and it’s a popular time for families to visit here on vacation.

Restaurants and activities are less crowded.

Because summer isn’t our peak tourism season, it’s naturally easier to get restaurant reservations, boat charter availability, and find tours that aren’t at capacity. It’s nice to experience the islands with less people around, in general.

The north shore of St. John in the U.S. Virgin Islands is one of those rare places that manages to feel both untouched and well-known. Stretching along the island’s Caribbean-facing coastline, this region is widely regarded as one of the most beautiful in the world—and it’s easy to see why. You can’t visit St. John without spending time on it. In fact, it’s probably the most popular reason why people visit St. John. ( Who among us hasn’t been lured into STJ dreaming by one of those iconic photos of Trunk Bay? ) However, there is so much to see and experience along the north shore. You likely will not be able to do it all on your first trip here. Here’s what to know about the north shore of St. John:
